Just an update, I managed to get a diaphragm kit from eBay for £8 which was delivered the next day. Even a novice like me managed to fit it within 20 minutes and we now have hot water again. Thanks to both of you for the help!

Ah, that makes more sense! I may as well get the diaphragm kit and replace the nut as well but apparently there are 2 diaphragms on this boiler. Do you happen to know the part number I'd need? I think it's 5111137, but not sure. Thanks for the help!
