    CH needed to get HW

Hi! Could it be the faulty/damaged actuator and a broken thermostat that could cause this problem? Just to be clear the CH is put on to activate the HW. The CH then stays 'on' when I turn it off at the control panel. It stays on whilst the HW is on and then when the 'timed' period comes ot...

    CH needed to get HW

One thing I forgot to mention is that despite the water only being 'on' for 30mins in teh morning and 30 minutes in the evening, it's piping hot and lasts all day. I am a busy mum of two so I'm forever washing up, washing my hands and using water. I hope you have a 'Eureke!' moment with...

    CH needed to get HW

Thanks for the update. Could it be that in addition to the microswitch being faulty/damaged that the thermostat could have broken? Is it possible that when I initiate the CH to fire up the HW that the thermostat stays stuck 'on' and can't switch itself off until the HW is turned/timed off...

    CH needed to get HW

LOL! I meant actuator not alternator!!! Serves me right for posting it at the end of the day! It's a Drayton mid-position actuator and we had it replaced. So, from what you are saying, despite being able to hear it whirring it just might not be 'engaging' because of a broken/faulty...

    CH needed to get HW

Hi, I really need some advice on my CH/HW System! It used to work fine on timer and on 'constant' until I had the water cylinder replaced. It may be coincidence that I now have this problem, but thought it worth mentioning! Now I can't get HW unless I put the CH on as well. This was...

    Dripping toilet overflow pipe

Hi, the overflow pipe to the downstairs loo is dripping. It stops when I flush the loo and then starts up again about an hour later. Interestingly I can hear the cold tank in the loft going when I do flush - is this connected? Apologies to your plumbing gurus if this is a wimpish, girly request...

The CH only works when the HW is on - help!

Hi, Thanks for explaining this. My boiler has been 'kettling' a bit and today it sounds as if I am running a tap. could this be where I have had the HW on to run the central heating? Lesa

The CH only works when the HW is on - help!

I have checked the movement of the diverter valve and it does move to the CH , HW and CH/HW part. Could it still be faulty? Out of interest, is this something that I can replace myself? Am I likely to get into any trouble, with leaks etc if I do it?! Where I have lost the 'over-drive'...

The CH only works when the HW is on - help!

Aaaagh! That explains why the water's steaming hot even to my dish-pan hands! You've been really helpful, do you have a twin in Hampshire I could call?!

The CH only works when the HW is on - help!

I have had a plummer out who took the motorised valve off and said it appeared okay. What trade is best skilled to fix this? One thing I forgot to mention, before this problem arose, everytime the hot water came on the valve made a ticking noise. It doesn't anymore! Out of interest am I...

The CH only works when the HW is on - help!

I have a Potterton Netaheat boiler and Potterton Ep2000 controller. The Central Heating won't work on it's own - I've tried using the timers, 24 hrs and over-ride function. I can hear the thermostat click when I hit any of these functions but nothing happens. However, if I set the HW to...
