The door now shuts! The only thing I did was empty the sink of water!

The door latch doesn't seem to be catching. Could it be an electrical problem or is it the door? Nothing seems to have tripped the house circuit breaker. The machine lights aren't coming on but not sure if the door has to be closed (which of course it isn't) for these to operate. Does anyone...
