Rayburn Royal OF7 - Fumes in hot oven since oil tank work

OK, been checking a few things on the Rayburn and found that the oil depth in the burner is approx 8-9mm which i'm assuming is too high?? This figure is with the BM30 at its lowest (it was about 10mm to start with). Do I need to lower the mounting bracket a few mm to get the oil depth down...

Rayburn Royal OF7 - Fumes in hot oven since oil tank work

Thanks boilerman. I accept your point about servicing the rayburn and maybe this experience has shown me the need for a professional service every once in a while. I'm just perplexed as to why this problem has arisen, I've 'diy' serviced the burner annually and its worked a treat for many years...

Rayburn Royal OF7 - Fumes in hot oven since oil tank work

OK oilhead, thanks for that I'll give it a try. As for the oil depth in one of your earlier replies you mention the 'oil level stays clearly shown on the enamel, and the level should be halfway up the hole'. I'm not sure which hole you are referring to??? Boilerman mentioned dropping an 8mm nut...

Rayburn Royal OF7 - Fumes in hot oven since oil tank work

No, not the best picture! It shows the flame on number 4 of the BM unit. Will screwing down the nuts increase the pressure of the oil coming out ?? Is that what determines the oil depth or is it something else? Would you normally expect this sort of smell in the oven if the oil level is too...

Rayburn Royal OF7 - Fumes in hot oven since oil tank work

Thanks, anyone know what the oil depth should be on a BM30, there's nothing on the top cover to show what it should be?

Rayburn Royal OF7 - Fumes in hot oven since oil tank work

Thanks Oilhead. I've left the internals of the regulator alone, didn't really want to get into that if I could help it, so no I've not checked metering slot. The flow out of the regulator is between 5 and 15cc per min which is correct (according to the data stamped on the reg cover), shouldn't...

Rayburn Royal OF7 - Fumes in hot oven since oil tank work

Thanks, I'll take the burner out and double check but I'm still not convinced the problem isn't tank or feed pipe related, the problem only started when the tank supports were altered, before then the Rayburn had been smell free and working fine.

Rayburn Royal OF7 - Fumes in hot oven since oil tank work

Thanks, I've had the same comment about the base on another forum. I'll get it sorted. I can't see how the float valve has changed in anyway, the Rayburn worked perfectly before the tank was altered. I had to change the outlet pipe length when I moved the tank, maybe some crud got into the...

Rayburn Royal OF7 - Fumes in hot oven since oil tank work

I have an oil Rayburn Royal OF7 which has worked fine for years but over the last few days has started producing a bad smell of fumes in the hot oven. (The smell isn't an oil smell, I've spilt enough of that to know!). This only started since I did some work on the plastic storage tank (1200...

Riello 40 burner keeps shutting off

I'll wait until it packs up altogether then, thanks for your help. Spot on with the boiler id by the way! How do you know that then? Cheers.

Riello 40 burner keeps shutting off

Yeah, defo no plastic pipe. I was going to get the boiler serviced anyway just didn't want to do if the problem was likely to be something serious/expensive. It does seem to guzzle oil so its ready for a professional service though the last time it was done it was just a 'kid' and a hoover that...
