Does anyone know if you can paint ceramic floor tiles and if so what is best to use?

i have recently had my flat re-plasted and was advised to put wallpaper paste on the walls to seal them and stop the paint soaking in and cracking. Don't know if it is too late for you to do this now or not...if it is you may just have to keep putting more paint on until the walls stop soaking...
