Repointing Victorian brickwork: are they using the right mortar?

Unfortunately you have used a general builder rather than a Lime and Brick restoration company, you have a lot off damaged bricks which need the attention of a skilled person to replace or reinstate with the correct material, some of it looks like it may have been blasted atone time ?

Bad job, as a rule off thumb the raking out should be a minimum one and a half times the width so in this case around 15mm.The pointing they have done is rough.

Thanks for that interesting about the clay content regarding painting, personaly i havent seen flettons used on new builds for years we find them expensive and poor quality compared to the bricks available form Holland and Belgium these days.

Brick arch - with a difference

Its been done and i guess you just start from one end same as Spanish vaults, a whole small house was built in Holland in the 80s with arches, upside down as an advertising gimmick for some epoxy morter.I still have dividers in my tool kit does that mean ime old Lol

Brick arch - with a difference

The arch may have been built with a fast settimg epoxy cement morter and no former, Gaudis work was built with plaster of paris for morter same as the old Spanish vaulted ceilings with no former.
