It's above the stop cock, so thought I could turn the water off, open the taps and have a go. I think you're right, I'll get someone in. Something's bound to happen and then I've got no water

Hello Newbie here. I have this connection on my mains cold water pipe, not far from the stop cock. I'm looking to box in the pipes but this connection is in the way and I'd like to remove it. Any ideas what it is and can I take it off and replace with some sort of straight connector? My DIY...
