    Pilot light always on?

Well.... Since I had to turn off the gas anyway, so I did it. Turned off the gas at the meter. Then came back close to the boiler and watched the pilot flame die away slowly. Just before it was gone, I heard the magic click. At that point I thought that the valve might have closed after...

    Pilot light always on?

Hi all, Just one final thought before this thread dies completely. I am deeply concerned at the possibility of gas valves failling so soon/often. This should not be the case. Despite this I have had 3 gas valves failures recently. Currently I have the pilot flame valve stuck open...

    Pilot light always on?

Yes, but that is fine if the boiler is on! If it is off then there is no ignition. There is just an open gas "tap" an no flame to consume it :( Note that currently the boiler is off and the pilot is on so there must be gas coming out. At first I thought that the boiler is safe provided that...

    Pilot light always on?

That is usually difficult with a service contract. However I think that the company in question were reasonably flexible. Well, that is actually a good suggestion. Since I have the old gas valve (one year old) I would like to peak inside and see if I can see anything wrong it it. The only...

    Pilot light always on?

Yes, when power is off the boiller turns off with the exception of the pilot flame which remains on. This is what worries me. If the flame goes out because the gas supply is cut without my knowledge for example, then when the gas supply is restored I will know about it too late ....

    Pilot light always on?

Thanks for taking the trouble to do this. Yes I have turned of the power at the isolating point. I wanted to do a test but I am not sure if I should do it for safety reasons. However I really wanted to test whether there is any fail-safe mechanism still in place. What I wanted to do is to...

    Pilot light always on?

Hi Tony, Yes, you may be right! Perhaps I am wrong but it appeared to me that the engineer seemed not to fully understand the problem. The problem with the boiler was that it would not fire most of the times. The symptoms were as follows: 1) Demand for heat 2) Clicking noise and pilot...

    Pilot light always on?

Hi, Is it possible that all these recent gas valve failures are related with my gas supply? If that is the case is there any solution? Thanks

    Pilot light always on?

Hi, Sorry I forgot to include the boiler model. It is an Inset BBU50 http://www.glow-worm.co.uk/manuals/pdf/Back%20Boiler%20Units/Inset50BBU_UIS.pdf The gas valve is actually this one http://www.sitgroup.it/content/view/120/lang,en/ I have a maintenaince contract so other then the...

    Pilot light always on?

Hi, I have been having lots of grief with my Glowworm back boiler in the last 2 years. It has been serviced and repaired several times in the last 2 months. It actually got a new PCB, new combustion products safety device and also a new gas control valve. This also happened a year ago where...
