Can i paint the cement under fireplace hearth? If not what?

I recently had a fireplace installed. The floor wasn't level so there is a wedge of cement exposed below (see pics: https://drive.google.com/folder/d/0B7kuw9HZDyuFYThNOW1nVkFzTzQ/edit ) The installer says I should conceal it with wooden beading but personally i hate the stuff so I was...

Are entry door systems with lock release secure?

I am renovating my recently bought house. It currently has a entry door system with a lock release on the yale lock so that you can release the door from one of the handsets. (something like this: http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/DE901.html) I have handsets all over the house so I opened...

Wiring a switched PIR light outside on 2 core t&e?

My builder has incorrectly fed 2 core t&e from the switch inside to where the light will go outside (and made good). I was planning to buy a outdoor light with a PIR sensor and have the switch override the PIR and make the light always on. Obviously normally this should be done with 3 core...

    Ventilate a small stack?

I am about to plumb a toilet and the condense pipe of a combi boiler into an existing internal waste pipe (the waste pipe currently comes out of the ground 2ft). I was just going to renew the waste pipe, fit a no-return valve to the condense pipe, add 2 straps to connect the toilet and...

Diagram to wire a humidistat extractor

I have an extractor in the bathroom that is wired to come on when the light comes on. It also has an isolator switch. I would like to rewire the extractor to take advantage of the humidity sensor independently of the light switch but the box and instructions are gone and I cant find them...

Weather compensation, zoning or both?+ minimum output

Understood, but lets say that zone 1 is on and has 7kW of rads, can a boiler condense if it's minimum non-condensing output is 7kW? Or is it already running at its minimum with no further reductions possible??

Weather compensation, zoning or both?+ minimum output

I think the questions are still relevant although I take your point that the solutions might be constrained. I still want to understand the impact of my decisions. Do you know what the minimum output would be in condensing mode for this boiler? I dont want a boiler that will never go...

Weather compensation, zoning or both?+ minimum output

I have weighed up the options and decided on a combi, now I just want to make it as efficient as possible. I am aware that i am over sizing the heating but I believe I can range this boiler so that should be much of a concern. Can anyone answer the questions I posed? Thanks again.

Weather compensation, zoning or both?+ minimum output

I am renovating my 4 bed Victorian house with solid walls. We are about to replace the boiler and I am looking at a Worchester bosh 36kw cdi compact with WF100 weather compensator. I chose the 36cdi as it has a hight flow rate for the HW and is compact enough to fit in a cupboard. I have...

Noticed low-level damp issues in kitchen walls, what's my be

I live in a Victorian house (1895) and I have noticed that the walls at knee height in the kitchen are bulging. When hit with a hammer the plaster comes off quite easily. I am considering having the fist meter of plaster removed and redone, but what is the best damp solution before I reapply...

HELP! Hwo or maintenance oil on newly laid oil floor?

I just bought an Emperor Oak Oiled Floor. The salesman of the reseller said it has been oiled 7 times with Woca oil but advises another coat once laid. Reading on this forum, opinion seems split, (in fact in the past I have found WoodYouLike suggest both options) Which one is best for...
