Unfortunately the extra cost from having to re-pipe is not £200-300 but min £1000 for the new pipes and then there is the aesthetics damage. If the new pipes were to be hidden completely then the cost would be far higher.

I would have thought there would be some sort of instrument that could be attached at the old defective boilers gas inlet which could measure how much gas can be sucked out safely. The max gas consumption rate for the new boilers can be found in the suppliers...
