    DHW pumped system

I have a new build house with pumps on both the C/H and DWH. The DHW pump only runs when the hot water is being heated via the timer, which is fine. Recently the hot water flow in the upstairs taps is very slow when the taps are opened - this during the 'timed period' but does improve on...

    Replacing pressure vessel valve

Apologies for not replying sooner. I'm not at the property so no photos. It's one of the isolating, half turn valves. Its a 15mm compression fitting so should be easy enough to actually remove but the system is full of water so I was wondering whether it's possible to do the job without...

    Replacing pressure vessel valve

I have a seized valve on my c/h pressure vessel. Do I need to drain the system to replace the valve? Thanks

    Turn off underfloor heating

My house has underfloor (u/f) heating on the ground floor and rads on the first floor. Each underfloor zone has a separate Heatmiser WiFi thermostat, the upstairs rads have a single WiFi thermostat and the towel rails have a separate WiFi stat. The Domestic hot water has a separate WiFi stat...

    Removing downlighter

I am struggling to remove a downlighter - see photos. I can pull the unit away from the ceiling but I cannot see how to release the retaining clips. The clips seem to have some plastic lugs which are preventing the clips from being pulled clear. I would be grateful for any advice.

    Conservatory blinds

Thanks Wayne's but I was concerned at the glass getting even hotter if the blinds reflected it back.

    Conservatory blinds

Internal conservatory blinds presumably reflect heat back onto the window? If so is there a risk that the double glazing will be damaged by excessive heat? I ask because although external blinds would stop the sun from penetrating but they would be unsightly and very costly.

    Removing moss between pavers

I need to clean moss from the jointing compound between a large area of paving which is comprised of various sized slabs so there aren't long straight runs of joints. I've removed some moss with a stiff brush but it would be hard work to do it all manually. I'm thinking about an electric joint...

    Paving joint compound

I have a large area of paving that was laid 2 years ago. The builder used joint compound, which looks great, but it doesn't seem to be as tough as I expected and there are some joints that have small sections that need re-pointing. I'm okay to do the job but I only need a very small amount of...

    Two way switch

Thanks for all the feedback. Some great advice but I'm going to leave as is - it's not important enough to justify the effort to achieve what I'd hoped for. On to the next project! Regards

    Two way switch

I have two sets of downlighters in my kitchen. There is a two way switch for one set and a one way switch for the other set. I would like to convert both sets to two way switching. I believe I could wire both sets of lights to the existing two way switch but I don't always want both sets on...

    Bathroom grab handles

I want to install some grab handles on the tiled wall above my bath. The wall is stud partition and it's unlikely a stud or nogging will be in the right place to screw into. Would hollow wall anchors work?

    Wooden sleeper trough - drainage

I would like to build a large 5m x 0.3m oak sleeper trough on my brick pavior driveway. I have in mind to line the trough with weed membrane to stop soil leaching onto the driveway. Would this be effective? I've also thought of removing a few of the paviors under the trough for drainage...

    Lighting a woodburner

Lighting Woodburner I've recently moved from a house with a Jotul woodburner which was easy to light using newspaper and kindling. The stove had a traditional grate with an ashtray underneath so to get the fire going I would open the ashtray door slightly which would produce a great draft...
