I have given up, the worcester engineer doesn't know, the water board engineer doesn't know, the men who fitted the boiler have been back and checked everything, they don't know what the dull thud is.
I will take a look at the expansion vessel as recommended by 'sourcebranch' if that doesn't...
NO definitely not the neighbours, that's a completely different sound, I though this was a serious site anyway and I'm definitely not laughing at this problem! :(
We had the heating engineers back last weekend and asked them if we had a mini expansion vessel fitted on the mains water inlet to boiler, they said that we didn't need one. They are baffled by the noise and don't understand what's causing it, they said they couldn't understand why the banging...
We have tried to locate where the noise is coming from, if you listen upstairs it sounds as if its downstairs and if you listen downstairs it sounds as if it's upstairs, had my ear to the ground in every room, but thanks anyway.
The heating was on a week ago last Monday evening 12/04/10, then we didn't switch the heating on for the rest of the week, in fact we still haven't switched the heating on. There was no noise on Monday or Tuesday then Wednesday night the dull thud started at around 10:30pm and must have stopped...
Had the heating turned on Monday evening because we had a new baby in the house, nothing on then for the rest of the week and the dull thud started Wednesday night at 10:30pm when we were in bed. Thursday evening started again every 40 seconds and lasted for about an hour, nothing Friday.
When it's cold the heating is on for about an hour in the morning and 3/4 hours in the evening, but even when the heating hasn't been on at all, it can suddenly start making the dull thudding noise for no reason! Never had a problem when the boiler was first installed, it was OK until winter...
You could try removing the trv heads so that they wont affect the bodies at all. See what happens - ANSWER - we have removed all the TRV it's made no difference.
Do you have your heating on all day and night? If it's not on during the night but it still makes the noise, i'm not sure how...
In November 2009, Fitz1 suggested we open the thermostatic rad valves to fully open and see what happens - that appeared to work for a short time then the noise returned as normal.
The Engineer didn't hear the noise because as I said - it can start at any time, day or night, the dull thud isn't there all the time but when it starts it can continue every 20 - 30 seconds or every 20 mins, it's even started at midnight for no apparent reason.
The boiler was installed...
Things are going from bad to worse, even when we don't have the boiler/heating switched on and there are no other appliances switched on, there is a dull thud and it can start at any time day or night, making the noise every 27 seconds to every 20 mins.
When the water is switched off and the...
