Hi I changed a radiator earlier and now my boiler wont fire for hot water or heating. Its a Sime super 80. I bled the new radiator and the boiler has 1 bar of pressure. It worked for a few minutes and then made some gurgling noises at boiler and cut out. Now it doesnt even fire. Please can...

Move a toilet 6 inches to the left but not away from wall...

Hi I've read quite a lot of posts about this but am still unclear what to buy to move my toilet about 6 inches left of where it is? It's a close coupled B&Q basic jobbie and the waste cones straight into the back of toilet through the wall behind it. I've tried a flexible connector but...

    Cable selection for outside lights

It's simply that I happen to have a load of 2.5 T&E lying around, no other reason for using it than that. I asked cos if it wasn't suitable I will go buy the right type of cable as recommended. All I will be doing it physically mounting the lights and running the cable but the electrician will...

    Cable selection for outside lights

Hi all, I've got someone coming round Saturday to connect my 2 new outside floodlights (150W each) to the CU and a switch in the hall. In the meantime I'm going to get them wall mounted and the cables run ready so all he has to do is connect them, it's a freebie job after all so I can't...

Diamond core cutter not cutting very fast

Was talking to the neighbours, he works for the council on property maint, said he's never experienced brick walls so hard, guess the house won't be falling down any time soon. As it happens the wall I was going through contained an inner layer of hardened concrete! Guess that's where the...

Diamond core cutter not cutting very fast

Yeah, took the pilot bit out once the cutter had started cutting as directed. Can't imagine trying to make a hole that big without a pilot bit to guie cutter at start.

Help please, rcd tripping when light circuit is connected

There's only one lighting circuit. Only 9 lights in the house in total. Moved the lights to rcd side and all is well, except if the rcd trips.

Help please, rcd tripping when light circuit is connected

In that case it's a borrowed neutral as I've traced and double checked the wires in the cu. That'll be fun to find. On a lighter note I suppose I could move the lights to the rcd side (I know it's not the best idea) but our alarm system is combined with the fire system throughout the house...

Help please, rcd tripping when light circuit is connected

It's an existing board that previously had all circuits on non rcd side except the shed. The board was put in when the shed was to protect it. Moved the sockets over to rcd side and moved socket neutral to rcd neutral bar too but now light trip the rcd. I can have either lights or sockets and...

Help please, rcd tripping when light circuit is connected

Can anyone advise what might be the problem please. We have a split load cu, sockets, boiler etc are rcd protected, lights are not. Neutrals are seperate, rcd protected to one block, non rcd to other. For some reason whenever I turn on the lighting circuit it trips the rcd circuits. Any...

Diamond core cutter not cutting very fast

Just a quick update. The method of cutting into breezeblock worked wonders and certainly sppeded up the cut into the brick. Still had problems with the inner material so chain drilled it and chiseled out. Thanks for all the support in this.

Diamond core cutter not cutting very fast

Thanks for the in depth reply. It all makes sense and the tips of the cutter do feel smooth. I have a couple of spare breeze blocks left over from a build so I'll try your method first before hiring again and let you know if it sorts it.

    Condensation on toilet cistern

In the first case their house is always cold so plenty of heating. I'll get an extractor installed. My house is different as we don't use the heating. The house is always warm and so far had no heating on at all last winter other than a few hours before the cold set in to check it worked...

    Condensation on toilet cistern

It's in a bathroom without extractor but the window is fastened open about an inch permanently, but the radiator in there is the only one without thermostatic valves so is on quite a lot. I have the same problem in my bathroom (the one above is the parents). Mine has an automatically...
