Job done. Went with the 490 guy. And I'm pleased. Gave me some advice about the ridge tiles too - don't need rebedding just yet but will in the next couple of years. And the other valley he took a look at and didn't suggest doing it just yet. It doesn't look too bad right now.

Yeh fair. Like I say, after a couple of people coming I knew what I needed to ask. So probably that's why nobody else went up. Ignore me on that one then!
Thanks for the advice. Very useful. Still not sure who to go for though!
The final quote I had was £440 for fibreglass and £490 for lead. He's the one that mentioned a tower.
However, I still have this thing in the back of my mind that the expensive guy is the *only* one who has actually been up there to look at it. And he mentions re-felting (it's worn away for...
Interesting about the tower. I wonder if that's what some of the folks are mentioning then. Oh I'm so confused now! I had settled on the expensive guy, because I felt he was going to do the job properly, and safely. But maybe the others would actually be ok?!
As for the panels - I'm pretty sure...
As in, if they need moving, will they still be under warranty?
Thanks for the advice on the scaffold cost. Nobody has mentioned that other system you mention. It's either been "tower" or "I'll just nip up a ladder". Or the expensive guy who wants scaffolding.
It's in Hertfordshire.
Attached a photo showing the scaffold the solar guys used. And on the right is a tower used to remove our chimney. Does that help? Thanks for the help!!
The photo is a little mis-leading on that front. I believe it'll be OK. Nobody has indicated they'd be a problem. But the fact they're there makes me want to ensure I get someone who will put the extra effort in to ensure they're working safely. I'm leaning towards the expensive person now...
Absolutely not! I think this post has become all about scaffolding. I 100% want the person doing the job to be safe. I appreciate all the help and advice, but I'd like to get back to the main topic.
Let's take the 2 quotes where the roofer has indicated they will use scaffolding. There's 1 at...
I believe it is largely moss yes. But I'm also sure that the valley tiles are either broken or there's gaps around the side where water is getting in. All the people who have come have said this.
Can anyone offer any advice on the quotes I've had? The thing that's confusing me is the vastly...
Ask for access, you can easily get up to that part of the roof on ladders. Similarly easy to erect scaffolding to that level. It's straight down to ground level from where the valley meets the gutter.
@vinn - thanks for the very detailed reply.
When you say the ridge tiles need attention, what do you think needs doing? This came up on or survey so it's not a surprise. But roofer 1, the expensive one, who I trust the most, seems to think they're fine. He says they're secret bedding so you...
Looking for some advice.
I have a leaking roof valley. Had a couple of people to look at it. Both think it's not too serious, but essentially in heavy rain water is getting in around a couple of the valley tiles. The felt underneath has rotted away so it's likely gone on for a long time.
I've...
Excellent! Thanks for putting my mind at ease! I've just been home for lunch and had a look and it's already drying nicely. We're also buying a fan heater and a normal fan which we'll use to give a bit of air circulation to aid drying.
The water appears to have only come in patches with one...
Hi all,
Just moved into our new flat and a few days down the line and we notice a plaster smell in the spare room. I finally tracked down what was causing it and the toilet upstairs was leaking during flushing. I've fixed the leak now, but I noticed just this morning that the water has...
