Think I’ve worked it out! It’s the 2 switched wires (?)

About to do this tomorrow (replacing an LF722 & Digistat SCR) All looks fairly simple. Just a swap out and then removal of the Digistat. Can I just ask out of interest why the link between 2 + 3 (just in case my junction box differs to the one above)? Thanks
