Thanks for the help. Seems I was flapping over nothing. I had it in the back of my mind that I'd read that whatever you do don't break the flange or else the world would come to an end or somethin'.

Thanks for the rapid reply. Can you give me a bit more info. ie If I cut the broken flange off is there a replacement type flange to take it's place?. Or is it enough to have the toilet connector just to go into the soil pipe direct without there being a flange? Sorry for being thick...
I'm installing a new WC on the ground floor.lThe clay flange ( not the rest of the pipe) has broken. Is there a replacement plastic flange product that can be inserted into the clay pipe?

Ok ...I know I'm ignorant. It's just that the existing WC (ancient) has the kind of trap that connects directly to the spigot and it appears to be sealed in/topped off with cement.
