    Primatic cylinders

Is this no brainer and complicated-looking boiler likely to still be working in 30 years like the Primatic will? Or will it need replacing after a decade like most condensers? And will spares still be freely available for it? Just wondering...

Gas - Big no no for anything DIY?

You can be a competent with gas whilst not being Gas Safe Registered. I have been quibbling about the fantasy legal obligation to be GSR to fit one's own gas hob, not the actual legal obligation to be competent. One only has to be GSR if receiving payment for the gas work. If you are fitting...

    Primatic cylinders

To explain in more detail, when the boiler heats the water inside it, the water expands do it's density becomes a little lower than the slightly cooler water in the pipework above. Put another way, the water at the top of the system becomes heavier than the water below so the cooler, heavier...

Gas - Big no no for anything DIY?

I asked you in a perfectly courteous manner in case I was mistaken, and you resort to abuse. You said: Which is plain wrong as you well know. Please don't make up stuff that isn't true, it undermines the credibility of everything else you say.

    Primatic cylinders

Well I never, every day is a school day!!! In 40 years plumbing I've never encountered one of those until now. So the OP really DOES have a combination Primatic. Apologies to all concerned.

    central heating hot water feed

Mick, it doesn't actually matter. Your new rad will work whichever way around you connect it.

Gas - Big no no for anything DIY?

Would you be kind enough to post up the legislation that says that please? I can't think of any regulation says exactly that. Much obliged if you can.

    Primatic cylinders

Bloody hell WHAT a confusing and contradictory label!! I'm leaning back towards it being a Primatic now. Can we have a photo of the whole thing rather than just the label please? Thanks.

    Primatic cylinders

I'm also inclined to suggest the OP actually has a direct (rather than indirect) Fortic combination cylinder, given his comments about there being no other tanks. With an indirect Fortic there would still be a separate header tank somewhere to fill the CH circuit. A photo from the OP would...

    Primatic cylinders

I think you could be right there. A Fortic combination cylinder rather than a Primatic self priming single feed indirect cylinder. People get them mixed up rather like they confuse combi with condensing...

    Primatic cylinders

Soldering over takes seconds to do once drained down, which you have to do anyway to change the cylinder. Primatics are designed for use with 'gravity circulation' primaries to/from the boiler. The water circulates by natural convection. Adding a pump risks corrupting or destroying the air...

    Unvented cylinder overflow

That's interesting. I've noticed they are nearly always fitted vertically but what is the mechanism that 'guffs' them if they are fitted horizontally? I've never noticed an instruction to fit them vertically in the MI, but then I rarely fit them, preferring MegaFLOs.

    Primatic cylinders

Eh? You've got me lost now. The whole point of a Primatic is to have one single cold water storage tank feeding it, it being heated indirectly by some sort of gravity circulation boiler. There should not be any motorised valves on the system, they are not designed to be connected to a fully...
