Thanks Andy, my wife reminded me that's what we did the last time about three years ago. As you say, right next to each other, and you balance on a loft beam and bale.

half inch, thanks John. Great if it was as simple as carrying up a ladder, tank is in a really crappy location.

Just watched a video about replacing the valve and probably better to replace the whole thing. I guess I won't know if it's 1/2" or 3/4" until the old one is removed? Is it just a coincidence that the hot water was lost when I bled a radiator?

Had this problem before a couple of times over last 6 years and as you say press down on the float valve resolved the issue. However, now pressing it down has no effect and no water comes out as ir did before.

The system is downstairs Ideal Mexico Super 3 boiler (about 25 years old). cylinder on first floor and two expansion tanks in loft.

Sorry, posts crossed. Large and small tanks in loft with small one empty. Nothing like the one in the picture.

We've been into the loft and they small expansion tank is as dry as a bone. Looks as though it hasn't seen water in ages despite having heating and hot water.

Thanks Bonni, I cannot find any meters on the Mexico that give me a pressure reading. How do I get this? The boiler is an Ideal Mexico Super 3 v18.

No hot water since bleeding radiator

Hi, I need some help as I am a complete DIY amateur. I bled a radiator yesterday which had a big air block and was only hot on the bottom 20% of the rad. This is now boiling hot to the top, but I have lost the hot water. The boiler is an Ideal Mexico. Any ideas?
