The bulbs are mains voltage, no transformers involved. The capsules are 40w 240v G9.

    Grout removal/replacement

I've just discovered our upstairs shower cubicle is leaking. The silicon around the base looks OK but the tile grout has a number of cracks in it. The cubicle consists of 3 stud partitions covered with plasterboard and tiles. I know this should be ply but I've got what I've got! It looks as...

    Halogen Bulbs Blowing

Actually, no. It's a centre ceiling fitting with 4 angled "spotlights" each with its own bulb and glass shade. I got the bulbs in my local hardware shop ( I was in a hurry!). I'm located near Woking in Surrey. I find it odd that twice now, I've had two bulbs go together. I've read the...

    Halogen Bulbs Blowing

In one of our downstairs rooms we have a light fitting which takes 4 40w halogen capsules. These don't seem to last long! Last week, two went together. I replaced them with Crompton THG940F's. Now two have gone again at the same time, including one of the new ones. Altogether I must have changed...

    Circiut Fault

Problem solved. The first one I took off (downstairs) was full of water!! The (upstairs) shower is obviously leaking. Having dried everything out and put it all back, things are now working again. Finally, Andrew 2022, yes, everything IS earthed!! Thank you everyone for your help. I now...

    Circiut Fault

    Circiut Fault

No, the bulbs are mains voltage. (Crompton THG940F to be exact!) Two of them blew together about 10 days ago....

    Circiut Fault

Yes, no problem. You'll need to educate me though. Given that all the lights are switched off, what am I testing by removing the bulbs?? (I'm assuming I've got an earth fault, hence the RCD tripping.)

    Circiut Fault

No, it was an internal fitting with 4 40w halogen capsules.

    Circiut Fault

I have a CU containing a GE 30mA RCD and 6 MCB's (3 ring mains, 3 lighting). This morning the RCD tripped for no apparent reason. As usual, I tripped all the MCB's, reset the RCD then the MCB's one at a time. Upon resetting the final lighting MCB, the RCD tripped again. Eureka, I thought. I...
