Thanks for the response. it has given me food for thought. We are in a conservation area, despite that ours is the only house of 4 built in the 1920's with the original windows left . So I would feel guilty if I put in a new window

I am planning a new kitchen. I need to reduce the height of a wooden casement window. Is it possible to add a deeper horizontal glazing bar so that the kitchen worktop sits below the top it. I need to add 3" to existing one.
Or do I need to bite the bullet and buy a new window .
