Thought I would update all on outcome. The guy came back, put everything right i.e. new box, right way up, new tails, 16mm earth, 10mm bonding, RCD. He stated that the box was untidy but he did his best. He said I have lots of wiring that has been added to by the person who had the house...

Thanks agian everyone for the fantastic help and support! I am going to get another qualified electrician to look at it and quote what he/she would charge for the correcting job and then try and negotiate the price off the job as he did do some things right! (kitchen sockets I hope?). As I...

One more question. Everyone keeps saying this is a mess. Agreed wiring is a mess aroundthe board, but does that also include the way the wiring has been done inside?

Hi all, Wow! Thanks for all the comments and feedback. I am trying to get someone else in (who knows what they are doing ???) to tell me what's wrong and what they would charge to put it right. I will speak to this guy and give him all the feedback you have given and tell him that either...

Hi fireman22. So I guess the tails are ok? So 10mm would be needed for earthing bonding? I paid £600 to change very old CU, add sockets and lights to kitchen and bonding/earthing. He came and saw job along with 2 others and was the best price. I now realise not always the best thing...

OK. I am getting a little confused, but maybe you guys are checking against each other and I need to be patient. So: 1. Are tails too small. i.e. 10mm? What size should they be: 16mm preferably 25 mm? 2. Old CU was ancient to say the least. Looked like the 1 way wylex CU (which is for...

Ok here are pics of board open, cutout and meter (outside). [ What size do tails/earth look like and what size should they be. He didn't touch any other lectrics that you see around the box, they were there already including weird round junction boxes

OK. My mistake. Just checked. Tails appear to be 16mm (circumference right?) He appears to have connected 10mm for earthing conductor and 6mm for bonding. Does this souind right? I guess I will have to insist on RCD. Would it be reasonable to pay more for his time isolating the problem or...
