Oops, used screws for one length of solid wood flooring!

Screws were about 30cm apart over 6 metres, apart from a middle sectio missing fir the fire of about 1.5m. I think I'll finish off the job and hope for the best!

Oops, used screws for one length of solid wood flooring!

Hi there Well, I laid my wooden flooring at the weekend - intended to use a portnailer but couldn't get to grips with it and decided to abandon that and use adhesive (this is onto existing floorboards) as I'd done this previously in the dining room and it's great - been down 2 years too...

    Wiring a 2kW electric fire

Hmmm, when I actually opened the thing up it looks like the double socket was actually a spur (I assume from another socket). So, I decided to revert back to the original plan, which is now: FCU for FIRE (this has replaced the old double socket) which is a spur. Then from this a spur to the...

    Wiring a 2kW electric fire

One more question! I've carried out the work but decided to do it like this: Replace DOUBLE SOCKET with FCU to fire. But taken the SUPPLY to the FCU of the wall lights from the SUPPLY to the FCU for the fire (and not from the LOAD, thus missing the FCU). Is this OK. I have it like...

    Wiring a 2kW electric fire

Thanks for both replies lads. Think I'll go with replacing the double socket altogether with a FCU (for fire), spurring off the FCU for lights. Seems safer and I'll make do without the plug there (actually would look pretty awful, 3 sets of boxes on the wall together, 2's bad enough!). Thank...

    Wiring a 2kW electric fire

Hmmm, when I say electric fire - it is an electric fire built into a marble fireplace (not a portable jobbie!) - like a gas fire. Eg: I think the double socket currently there is on the ring with a fused spur for the lights. So, my question was - can I add another spur off this ring at...

    Wiring a 2kW electric fire

Thanks for the reply. There is already a plug on it. But it looks horrible - the wire coming out from behind the fireplace and plugged in. Doesn't look like a professional job imho. Any thoughts on the wiring? I am redoing the loung anyway so no hassle making extra plugs etc.

    Wiring a 2kW electric fire

Hi there I need to wire a 2kW electric fire into the mains circuit. Currently there is a double plug sockets which has a fused spur feeding 2 wall lights. I'm wondering will it be OK to add another fused spur to feed the fire (and keep the double socket or replace with a single)? Or should...

    Switch/separate fused unit order question

Err, what about when I said (in my second post on this thread)?: "Bear in mind that both connections from the FCU to the lights and from the (currently) fused switch to the FCU are behind tiles/wall units." Perhaps I should have drawn the units/tiles as well? However, the guys that helped...

Thanks again Andrew. I'll follow the instructions given. Cheers MM2005

    Switch/separate fused unit order question

OK guys, thanks all for your help. I think the main thing here is having separate units (i.e. hood/lights in this case) on separate fuses (which it isn't at the moment). Don't worry they're not switch on anyway yet! Should I have a switched FCU on the cooker hood or does it not really...

    Switch/separate fused unit order question

Andrew, when you're saying switch in your last sentence I assume you mean FCU? The only switch I have (and can have unless I redesign my kitchen!) is the one labeled Fused Switch in my original diagrams. Here is how I think it might work safely...

    Switch/separate fused unit order question

Cheers Andrew. So I should have one FCU going off into two separate ones. One (13amp) going to hood - One (3amp) going to lights. I'm assuming I can replace the first FCU with a splitter box (but still have the 2 FCU's between hood/lights as said)? Also, can you confirm whether fused...

    Switch/separate fused unit order question

Thanks for your help Andrew. Yes, I guess so - my question was to do with how to do this safely given the predicament I have, i.e. the wires are already behind the walls! Here's how I think you mean: http://img261.imageshack.us/my.php?image=switch26fd.jpg I have gone from the switch...

    Switch/separate fused unit order question

Cheers for replies: I've drawn out the connections (crudely): http://img107.imageshack.us/my.php?image=switch6do.jpg The FCU is just a standard fused terminal. Bear in mind that both connections from the FCU to the lights and from the (currently) fused switch to the FCU are behind...
