TBH no... I probably wouldn't. But I would probably advise them to source the pump themselves then phone around to find the cheapest quote they could find to get it fitted.... which is exactly what I did when I needed a new heat exchanger fitting to mine.
Having looked at the job, and seeing...
Went for a shower this evening and it's up to it's old tricks.... dry tested it with the new thermistor which arrived this morning and hey presto... hot water..... put it back on the old one.... wouldn't fire up. I think we've found the culprit!!
Tomorrow morning I shall be throwing caution...
I did say "on the water side" so I guess that it was implicit in this phrase that exceptions such as you mention would not apply.
After more than 20 years of regularly carrying out a variety of DIY tasks, having been brought up in a household where this was normal. By having fully...
"3.—(1) No person shall carry out any work in relation to a gas fitting or gas storage vessel unless he is competent to do so." (The Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998)
I think you are taking far too literal a view of the Gas Regs. Nowhere does it state that you cannot even...
Well... woke this morning to find the boiler working perfectly. Grabbed a hot shower while the going was good.... and it still seems to be behaving itself and giving hot water on demand!
Would this suggest a dodgy connection somewhere perhaps? I am reluctant to reassemble and put the front...
I did manually test the microswitch.... with the heating off, depressing the HW switch causes the pump to kick in but the boiler does not fire up. With the CH on, depressing just the CH shut off switch the boiler does cut the flame so I assumed the switch was ok... although could there still be...
No I certainly don't expect you to go and fix it for free yourself Tony.... but the reason people post on these forums is because it is a DIY forum and they are looking for advice to help them do the work themselves if possible.
FYI, I did have a job up until 31st August when I was made...
Another very helpful post Tony.....!
But please do post your engineer's solution as I have a very similar problem with my Ravenheat but can't afford the engineer!!!
Vinegar seems to be the recommended cleaning solution from Ideal Standard themselves so I would imagine it should be ok
See http://www.ideal-standard.co.uk/homeowner/shower/Article2625.aspx
I would have though it was some kind of mineral deposit... copper carbonate or something similar? It depends on the ph of your water as to how much of a problem it is.
Try soaking it in vinegar and then give it a scrub...
Forgot to add..... on a couple of occasions, the hot water did fire up for a short time but was ony tepid. Currently not firing at all even with the CH on. If the heating is on when a demand for hot water is made, the boiler cuts out (as is normal during switchover) but doesn't reignite.
I think this is a totally new fault Tony...
Previously, I had a cycling on/off problem with the boiler during operation of the hot water but at least the boiler was firing on demand for hot water.
This was diagnosed as a problem with the heat exchanger and certainly replacement of this...
Having a enjoyed a lovely couple of weeks of fully functional boiler and delicious hot showers, it's up to it's tricks again!
So to recap.....Ravenheat CSI 85T... in the past couple of months has had a new pump, new heat exchanger, new diverter valve and thermistors.......
Woke this...
