it still does it with the stopcock turned off. The only thing i cant check is the heating system but the boilers getting replaced on Wednesday and the system will be flushed before the new boiler is put into service. It started after we started using the upstairs when it was finished. it lasted...

okay a quick sketch for you. The room to the left with the green arrow is where the sound is emanating. That room has 2 rads & a utility sink/unit. The bathroom has a towel rail, hand basin, shower and a bath. the room on the right has one large rad. Its definitely not wind, there is no aerial...

High pitched sound that rises and falls for hours on end.

Hi Alec, I'll see if I can record it. The other day it was pretty loud. I opened an access hatch in the wall upstairs and sat on the other side of the wall sitting behind the king span and couldn't hear a thing. Go back into the room at the corner in the middle and you can hear it. I'll draw a...

High pitched sound that rises and falls for hours on end.

Honestly mate it's absolutely weird. Brought over a mate who obviously thought I was off my head. 10-15 mins after going upstairs and it starts and here's where it gets even stranger. Regardless of the time I go upstairs. I went up on 3 different times at night over 3 days and everytime the...

Okay depressurised it and the sound was still there and you could hear it slightly in the other room. Honestly it's absolutely baffling. Quiet all day and as soon as it's bedtime within 10-15 mins it starts and lasts till atleast 1000. Last night was just bloody ridiculous at how loud it was. I...

So how do you do that? Shut off the cold feed at the cylinder and open the hot water taps

High pitched sound that rises and falls for hours on end.

yes the cylinder(water)is a sealed system as we got rid of the huge gravity tank in the loft but didnt change the heating to sealed as alot of the pipework joints downstairs are 33yrs old and theres high probability when moving to a sealed system it would start blowing joints so we left the...

High pitched sound that rises and falls for hours on end.

so how do you do that in a vented system? I might have to wait a week for that unless its an easy task as the old boiler is being replaced next week and they'll flush the entire system before fitting the new boiler. I appreciate people trying to diagnose stuff over the internet can prove testing...

Depressurise, you mean drain down the entire heating circuit?

High pitched sound that rises and falls for hours on end.

Well the water has been turned off in fact did that again last night. I've already de- energised the whole property from the cut out to rule out an electrical problem but after the attic conversion all circuits were retested as part of the process. We had this problem 4 months ago after the...

Eh not unless the whole household has spontaneously had hearing damage at the same time.

Can't hear anything or feel anything if I put my hand on it. Tundish is dry. I did wonder if it was pressure related as now a few showers have been ran and sinks being used etc. The sound is gone.
