    No hot water since drain-down

Hi, I noticed there's a drain cock on the gravity return above the boiler. Could I connect mains pressure cold (from the garden tap) to this and use the mains pressure to backflush the system and push out any airlock? This method would imply that mains water will flow back into the header...

    No hot water since drain-down

Hi Dan, Yes, water filled the header from the main supply, as I drained the water from the vent to the right of the cylinder. All the pipes from the tans are 22mm, though the hot water one's go up to 28mm not far from the boiler. If someone has tinkered with the plumbing, i doubt it was...

    No hot water since drain-down

Hi Dan, yep loads of water. I let it run while checking the header tank in the loft. It was a bit dirty, but not too bad. Could I use the gravity return valve at the top of the boiler to bleed any air, or back-flush it?

    No hot water since drain-down

Hi guys, I connected a piece of hose to the service valve with the other end in the bathroom sink, and opened the valve allowing it to run through, before closing the valve. Unfortunately, it's made no difference, and the boiler still cut's out from overheating before the water gets hot...

    No hot water since drain-down

Hi John, Can't post images on this board, but I did take some of the cylinder and boiler. I tried ramming a length of twin and earth down both cold water feeds from the main tank, and on the CH feed from the header tank. Still not joy...CH is fine, hot water trips the cutout before the...

    No hot water since drain-down

Hi John, Water comes out of the hot taps, but it's cold, as in hasn't been heated. The water that drained out had a rusty tint to it, but it was still clear. If you let the water sit, you could see a light brown deposit left. The small expansion tank fills and drains fine, i turned the...

    No hot water since drain-down

Hi again ! The water in the central heating will squirt out, though I'm not brave enough to let it come out so forcefully !! I drained and refilled again, but have the same problem. The CH works fine, all rads heat up, and have been bled several times. When I switch on the hot water...

    No hot water since drain-down

Hi John, Yes, there's water in the small tank...it's clear with a small rust deposit on the bottom, but nothing much. It took about 20 minutes to get all the air out of the rads. The water that drained out was rusty, but nothing like as bad as I've drained from some car radiators ...

    No hot water since drain-down

Guys, Some of you have a wicked sense of humour........ Once I'd replaced the radiator, I turned all the water back on and it gradually refilled after bleeding each one. There are large and small tanks in the loft. I also have pipework like Chris's, but when I tried venting at point V...

    No hot water since drain-down

Hi guys, I have a Glowworm Ultimate gas boiler supplying CH and hot water. It supplies 4 radiators and the hot tank upstairs and 2 radiators downstairs. A couple of nights ago, I drained the central heating down from one of the downstairs rads to replace a bathroom rad. Once the...
