Thanks all. I replaced the washer and there is no longer a humming noise when the toilet is flushed.

Isolate water to cistern and access to the washer is to undo the nut at the end with the white piston protruding out

Yes had it plenty of times when I was back on plumbing and sounds like the float valve (side entry valve) requires a new washer
