I have IT equipment on the bottom floor in the room next to the boiler. The pump is on the third floor where there is not a lot of electrical equipment. I have digital cable on the second floor. Fuse box on bottom floor along with boiler and IT equipment.
I'm sorry for confusing you - it must be a lack of heat haddling my brain.
If anybody can provide a summary of what the fault could be and what may need to be done I'd be most grateful.

What is a gas valve and its function? How can this knock electricity off? Is this a heating engineer job or an electrician's? Can I advise the engineer to look at this?

Is that a fuse box within the boiler or the fuse box in the house, John D? The thing I'm saying trips is the RCD circuit breaker (blue) in the fuse box)
Yes Dave it's just sockets not lights, I'm afraid I can't answer the other question.
turn on power supply to boiler, use control panel to select on, a fan whirrs inside the boiler, the instant the boiler starts to spark the circuit breaker trips.
