    Water too hot

Thanks both. So from what you have said, I don't need to program the central heating thermostat for hot water on/off (even though this facility is available) as the tank will always store water at the temperature set on the tank thermostat. Does that mean that if the water temperature falls...

    Water too hot

Thanks 45yearsagasman & osofarsogood. I will check both these. Just to get my head around this system...does the tank continuously fill with cold water which is heated by some sort of heat exchange provided by the boiler...or...does the boiler heat water and deliver it to the tank on demand...

    Water too hot

Hello, I wonder if anyone can shed some light on this? I have just moved into a house that is approx. 11 years old and uses an indirect unvented hot water cylinder (oso indirect 20 RI) to provide hot water to the taps. Unfortunately, I have come from a house that had a combination boiler and...

    Fixing Plasterboard Beading?

Will staples hold it long term, or do you rely on the jointing compound to hold in firmly? What type of jointing compund do you need to use. I have Gyproc Easy fill - is this suitable?

    Fixing Plasterboard Beading?

Can anybody answer what is probably a simple question, but I can't figure out for the life of me How do you fix corner beading to a drylined wall (brick)? Every plasterboard guide talk about nailing the corner beading into the studwork behind the plasterboard, but obviously this can't be done...

    Central Heating Pressure Drop

Thanks for the reply. There is no water from the discharge pipe outside. I will check for the startup noises you mention and will let you know if there is anything that sounds odd. Otherwise I will have to get the installer back for a look! Thanks again for your help.

    Fire Place Closure Plate

I have also noticed the insualtion under the cover of the stove has come unstuck and is crumbling - someone suggested it might be asbestos - is this likely?

    Central Heating Pressure Drop

The knocking only happens on CH, and in the morning when the heating first comes on. The boiler is in a two storey house on the ground floor. The knocking always sounds like it is coming from the pipes in the floor space above the boiler. I have checked the valve, and it is loose. I also...

    Central Heating Pressure Drop

I have a Gloworm 30ci Combi Boiler fitted last year and have been well pleased with its performance. I have noticed a gradual pressure drop in the central heating though (0.5 bar over a few months). It currently sits at 1.1 bar Is this normal? I don't think there are any leaks anywhere. I...

    Fire Place Closure Plate

Thanks for the info - I best get the sledgehammer out! Just out of interest, where did you get the info? Do you know where I could get a manual for the Jotul 100?

    Fire Place Closure Plate

The stove is an old Jotul 100 (hence lack of instructions). What is the smallest opening allowed? I have left a rectangular hole of 160 x 180mm for the flue (I was going to cut the plate down to cover this, leaving a circular hole for the stove flue). I have also left a small hole at the base...

Central Heating - how do I know if I have a leak

If it is a slow leak, you may not notice a drop in the system pressure. Could be a bad joint (very slow drip) and this may not get any worse over time - but it certainly won't get better! The heating would still work.

    Fire Place Closure Plate

Has anyone fitted a freestanding stove with a rear flue outlet that goes through a metal plate covering the original fireplace? I moved into a house with a gas stove that was fitted in this way. The plate has a hole for the flue and a small cutout (60mm x 80mm) at the base. I have...

    2 way switch

This website explains how to wire a two way switch so 1 light can be controled by 2 switches. I need to do the same thing but for 2 lights being controlled by a double switch - can anyone point me to a wiring diagram? Thanks
