Yes the pump works. Yes hard water area. Last time I drained it the water was fairly murky as far as I can remember, but the F&E tank looks quite clean at the moment. No Magclean or similar.

    Potterton Profile Kettling

Hi, My elderly Potterton Profile is kettling and short cycling. It runs for about a minute and a half, hisses like a kettle and then shuts down for about a minute until the hissing has subsided and then starts up again. I've used Sentinel X800 and X200 in the past which improved it, but...

    F/F Fridge Compartment Freezing

Hotpoint Iced Diamond RFA52 circa 2006 MY The F/F is constantly running. The fridge compartment is freezing at about -6 and the freezer at about -30. In the fridge compartment frost builds up in the top left corner. I've fitted a new thermostat but that's made no difference and the door...

    Damp In Old Stone House

Thanks, it seems that chemical damp proofing is designed for brick walls? I'll fit the felt support trays tomorrow if it's dry, which should stop any water dripping into the walls, and will see if it drys out at all. (y)

    Damp In Old Stone House

I have an old stone built end terrace house (C.1880) where the walls are double skinned with a loose rubble infill. I have discovered some nasty damp in the rear wall which has rotted the MDF skirting boards which were fitted about 15 years ago. The plaster and render seems mostly OK, apart...

    No Hot Water!

OK I hear what you're saying about the thermostat, but I just don't understand how the work that I've done could have affect it or the wiring. I havn't disturbed any of the wiring and everything was working fine on Monday night....

    No Hot Water!

Thing is though when I switch on the hot water, the motor at the 3 way valve whirrs, which suggests that there is power. I've just had another look and the position switch dosn't move when the 3 way valve motor is whirring.

    No Hot Water!

I didn't touch the thermostat or any of the wiring to or from the boiler. The only thing I did at the boiler was to turn it off at the mains switch when I drained it. I've just turn the thermostat up and switched the hot water on, but nothing happened.

    No Hot Water!

My boiler has been kettling and the rads not getting very hot, so on Monday I drained the system, filled it/drained it again, then filled and added a bottle of Sentinel X800 cleaner and left it for 24 hours. I had the heating and hot water on for several hours on Monday evening and then left it...

    Electrical Safety Test

Thanks for all the comments. (y) Eric is correct that in Wales if you want to rent out your house you have to obtain a licence from the Welsh Government, and to get that licence you have to take a course and sit a test. I have done this and it cost me approximately £240 in terms of the course...

    Electrical Safety Test

OK so to ensure that the installation is safe I need a EICR report? And the consumer unit or any other parts of the installation for that matter don't necessarily need to be upgraded to current specs if they are working correctly?

    Electrical Safety Test

So is the EICR the same as the electrical safety test that I'm thinking about for landlords?

    Electrical Safety Test

Hi, I am preparing a house to let out and want to get an electrical safety test done. The consumer unit looks a few years old and I'm wondering if it will have to be upgraded to a new one to meet current regs. Thanks in advance. :)
