Questions on: Immersion switch replace with timer

And that qualifies as a mountain out of a mole hill, and a hash up? I'm truly puzzled why you should suddenly jump to that unconstructive comment when I've been nothing but polite and grateful for everyone's input. I explained my reasoning about not having a switch in series with a...

Questions on: Immersion switch replace with timer

Taylortwocities, thanks for your concern but no!, I didn't ignore the advice just slightly arthritic fingers aching and didn't want to retype: i'll have this covered at the consumer unit as I explained earlier in the thread. If I cannot source a DP RCBO, MCB/RCD, then I will install a DP...

Questions on: Immersion switch replace with timer

Sooorrry ;-) I meant RCDO, like that which is protecting the outdoor sockets. My understanding is they give the best of both functions. Switch AND timer? The reason I'm uncomfortable about this is the 'idiot' factor. Switch & Timer in series makes it easy for 'someone' to deliberately or...

Questions on: Immersion switch replace with timer

Thank you all for your ideas and comments. Iggifer Seems you are right, he can't do. Those references are invaluable, many thanks for digging them out, not sure why my pdf viewer's search did not turn up those. Stillp Thanks, yes I agree and appreciate this, that standards are not...

Questions on: Immersion switch replace with timer

Thanks Oldbutnotdead, fortunately the consumer unit is in the garage (frees space indoors). I agree about the shoddy appearance. If I were a surveyor I'd think "if this, then what else?" and start really digging for failures in the whole building. Nick

Questions on: Immersion switch replace with timer

Wow! Thanks you all for the time and thought you've given to replying. By chance yesterday I met an electrical engineer that gives toolbox talks and training to others. Doesn't mean he is any good of course, or that he knows the regs inside out but I do know he has to give presentations on the...

Questions on: Immersion switch replace with timer

Thank you Securespark, that's ingenious too. Such a shame that this TimeGuard timer doesn't have the strain relief built in. Otherwise it's a nice compact unit. Cheers.

Questions on: Immersion switch replace with timer

Thanks Iggifer, I'll definitely try to get some of those P clips and will check the flex diameter to make sure they are tight. I like that these are standard industry items. Ta very much.

Questions on: Immersion switch replace with timer

Iggifer, many thanks. Though I've already got the TimeGuard NNT03, the cable clips look excellent if they grip the flex tightly enough to prevent the flex from slipping. I'm also fortunate the wall in question is a stud wall - I've done plenty of single to twin socket conversions in solid brick...

Questions on: Immersion switch replace with timer

SimonH, many thanks for pointing out the correct sub-forum - I didn't see it. I'll have a more in depth shufti around all the categories for next time. Thanks also for the suggestion about fabricating a clamp. As tempting as it is, and easy indeed to fabricate, I'm not convinced that this...

    Loft access doors

Hi Letty I work in the window and door industry, though in the hardware industry (window motors, hinges, locks etc). A loft hatch like this may well not work well as a vertical eaves hatch such as the Fakro one you found, because the hardware (hinges, latch etc) MIGHT not be suitable for the...
