Great idea Pete. You've been really helpful. So attach the earth tag ring to the metal cup and run an earth wire from it to the earth wire already in the wall? Would that make it safe? Also someone mentioned that the wires look aluminum as opposed to copper? Do I need to do anything about that...

So i consulted with the factory who made them. They informed me that the metal cup and the lamp's electrical wiring are separated, so it is merely a decorative component.
Does that now make sense that there is no Earth?
