    Solar panels on warm roof

Not fixed to roof.. Concrete slabs placed on rails act as ballast. The load can be less as they're angled at about 10 degrees,(tubs are steeper), and a number of panels linked together.

    Solar panels on warm roof

When we had the roof built I mentioned to structural engineer that I may want to put solar panels on it in future, pretty sure he factored it in, but It was the builder who didn't put ply on top of insulation which was actually mentioned in original specs. (Though I know this isn't a...

    Solar panels on warm roof

That was my thought however from looking around install on YouTube etc these pads seem pretty standard. Esdec systems have a circular plastic disc as a pad, both seem to have quite a small area to transfer load.

    Solar panels on warm roof

Not quite sure what you mean by concrete strip? The racking systems seem to have a small rubber type pad about 15cm x10 cm that takes the weight of panels, racks and ballast.

    Solar panels on warm roof

We recently had a new warm flat roof constructed. 3 layer felt was laid on top of the insulation/vapor barrier/osb which gives a hard surface but I guess not as hard for taking loads as another layer of ply on top would do. Could this construction take the load of solar panel racking + ballast...

Best product to fix bodge and colourmatch mortar.

We have just had an aerial cable put in and you can see the guy's done a bit of damage to the brickwork and mortar and decided to fill with a bad matching brown filler/silicone. What would be best product to cover this brown gunk to improve aesthetics? thanks

    Waterproof corner

Here's how roofer eventually finished corner. IMHO not exactly a work of art

    Waterproof corner

Thanks the bit that vothers me the most is the lowest arrow. When rain hits the top of that brick where does it go. Into the cavity wall, onto the bottom of the roof beams

    Waterproof corner

Can anyone suggest how this corner should be finished to ensure water tightness? I know the 'new' white corner is cracked but even the bottom arrow exposes a weak point i think. I know the gap between bottom of fascia and brickwork needs sealing. There's a gap along whole wall. Maybe a pvc...

Noise from Modulating pump vs fixed speed pump

We did try on 1 but the radiators didn't heat up, 2 is our perfect setting. my question was more about how boilers that contain their own modulating pumps will operate, we don't have one yet, will they go up to a level 3 equivalent of our current pump and therefore get noisy?

Noise from Modulating pump vs fixed speed pump

We currently have a grundfos 3 speed pump on our heating system. We have to set it to '2' as on its highest setting we get noise, higher pitched whinning, in the house, maybe from pipes. If newer boilers have modulating pumps are we likely to get intermittent noise as pump runs on its maximum...

    Steel bridging different thickness walls

Our structural engineer isn't really being very helpful about this, he says ask architect who's too busy. Neither is building control. What would really help us is if we were allowed to build a new wall with a smaller cavity, 50mm, and then perhaps add 50mm insulation on inside of new...

    Steel bridging different thickness walls

Is it possible for the end of the new wall to have no cavity, so it is solid masonary? Then a steel would sit across old wall blocks and onto new wall blocks, no need for the padstones in this orientation.

    Steel bridging different thickness walls

I think I can deduce from the pictures I posted of someone else's project that these would cause thermal bridging problems.

    Steel bridging different thickness walls

Thanks. It's flat roof single storey room with similar extension attached. No wall above to support. The perpendicular steel above this proposed lintel/steel bridges a 4m gap, flat roof through web. So a 30cmx30cm pier on corner should be enough? I've since found these pictures which do have a...
