    UPVC doors have dropped

Hi Last year I had some french doors installed. They are now catching the bottom of the frame. I've taken then cap off the hinges and tried adjusted with an allen key, however I'm already at the 'max' height and the only adjustment I can do is to drop the doors which obviously worsens the...

    cleaning water tank

Thanks. I'll look at sorting this tomorrow. Regarding treatment for the water, I know you can buy things to attach to pipes, but is there a product that you can pour into the tank, open all the hot taps and flush it all through? e.g. FERNOX DS-3 LIMESCALE Remover 2KG https://amzn.eu/d/crjGw0r...

    cleaning water tank

thanks chaps. i've found the isolator valve and that stops the tank refilling when the hot taps are on. can I just check a couple of things - 1. how do I stop the crud going down the 'drain' when I scrape it all off? I've got a wet and dry vac but don't want deposits going through the pipe...

    cleaning water tank

hello. this water tank is at the top of a cabinet in the bathroom. I think it's for the hot water only, as running the cold taps does nothing, whereas it starts to refill when the hot taps are on. we've had an eggy smell in the bathroom and it seems to be coming from this tank. am I safe just...

    porch canopy repair

thanks. I think I'll replace the fascia too. do you know how important keeping those circular air vents would be? obviously there for a reason at the moment but I don't tend to see any other canopy's with these in....

    porch canopy repair

thanks. think upvc would probably be my preference. is there an advantage to shiplap over tongue and groove? I assume overcladding would be a quick botch as you just cut to size and screw it onto an already failing board... if you rip the rotten boards off, will there be a frame underneath to...

    porch canopy repair

Hi As per the attached image, the wooden 'slats' (proper name?) on our porch canopy are rotting. My plan was to sand and repaint but chunks of wooden came off with the paint so that's clearly not an option. I'd assume/hope these are purely cosmetic? The gallows(!?) below seem sound. Any idea...

    Repairing the verges

Thanks. Very helpful and sounds like that's what the £350 guy would be doing, i.e. just hiding the issue with the caps. Do you think sticking with the traditional wet mortar verge would be a better option? Would be more aesthetically pleasing and presumably a much easier (and cheaper) job...

    Repairing the verges

Apologies. Thought you meant square to existing wall. The extension isn't square. it is slightly wider at the rear compared to the front - guessing it was done this way to follow the property boundary line and maximise space.

    Repairing the verges

No, it is square - upper floor extension with carport.

    Repairing the verges

Hi, Looking for a bit of advice on getting my roof repaired. 1950s extended semi. Excuse any incorrectly terminology but as you can see from the photos, mortar is cracked/missing in places on my verges and mortar is cracked/missing in places on the tile undercloak. I'm not sure why there is...

    Kitchen extraction fan placement

Thanks for this. So are you saying buy a 90 degree duct and not use the supplied steel chimney at all? Thanks

    Kitchen extraction fan placement

Hi. In the process of doing my kitchen and was planning on moving the hob to the left of the window and installing an extractor fan directly above as just 'opening the window' isn't always ideal! It seems to me that the water pipes running horizontally would be in the way of any extractor fan...

    Garage condensation problem

Hello. We have a concrete garage which is about 20ft x 10ft. It has a flat single sheet corrugated metal roof. We've had the house about 5 years and whenever temperatures drop and we start getting a frost, the underside of the garage roof collects a load of water and drips onto the entire...
