Could anyone help at all?

Hi all, first post here so please go easy on me! I have a Tribune immersion heater, and recently have noticed that the top 'lid' looks as though it's coming off. Should I be concerned, or is it just casing? I've lived here for 8 years and for all I know it could of been like it for a long time...
