I did think that these regulations are not retrospective, but I now have to reassure my tennant after the BG engineer has him convinced otherwise...

Anyway, after extensive testing we've figured the problem out. The cable going from the ceiling switch does not go directly to the shower. The cable is actually 10 sq mm cross section and fine.

Well it turns out that the immediate trip being caused by the ceiling switch was caused by:
drumroll - the British Gas Homecare guy had all the wired crossed togeather in the switch!
Are they homecare or are they there for sabotage? I'm lost for words. I will be complaining first thing...
