Thanks it appears that the metal plate holding the end of the MVV is not making a very good earth - cleaned it up and seems to be working now or at least it is firing up after a couple of clicks from the spark gen.

Hi, I have an old Potterton Netaheat 10-16 Mk1. Recently it repeatedly clicks many times before firing up. I beleive the elecrode gap may be incorrect or dirty. Today after returning from holiday the spark generator just keeps clicking (the fan is running) but no ignition. Any ideas - Regards Graham

Have had an engineer look at the boiler - he says it is definetely the MV - only problem is cannot seem to get hold of one anywhere, they where made obsolete as from Dec05. Some websites still have them on their parts list, but none seem to have any in stock. Anyone out their got a spare one...

Although I'm not gonna touch it, its still buggin me whats up with the mercury valve whether on cold it should be open or closed? I know the Netaheat is old but its been very reliable, If I get a new boiler what would you recommend for a conventional fully pumped sytem?

So perhaps the MV is ok, from cold the switch is open. Maybe the thermostat needs replacing, boiler is totally dead at present, the termostat clicks but there's absolutely nothin else, no relay clicking or fan either? Might take a trip to the Potterton Graveyard
