Cutting a Doorway Close to Elec and Gas Pipe, bad idea?

I am just adding to this so if anyone reads in the future they know what to expect. The subcontractor for the DNO has been out twice. Visit 1. There were two guys, one older and one younger. I asked if the entire board could be moved 500mm left under the consumer unit. Older guy said it could...

Cutting a Doorway Close to Elec and Gas Pipe, bad idea?

Especially cables like mine are 50 years old. I guess the material dries up and is more prone to cracking if bent?

Cutting a Doorway Close to Elec and Gas Pipe, bad idea?

Scary stuff there. Do you know the approx bend radius of the electrical cable ? If I wanted to bend it 90 degrees with only 80mm of space would that be possible do you think?

Cutting a Doorway Close to Elec and Gas Pipe, bad idea?

Not so easy Im afraid. Electricians are not responsible for the meter and playing it by the rules really should touch that board. Was the electrician not scared of touching that power cable without the proper training or equipment?

Cutting a Doorway Close to Elec and Gas Pipe, bad idea?

The DNO has already been out. I asked them to move the board under the CU. They say it cannot simply be moved because a cable cannot be in a doorway even if there is a suspended timber floor covering the cable. So they would need to dig a trench back to the driveway, cut cable put in a join to a...

Cutting a Doorway Close to Elec and Gas Pipe, bad idea?

I want to cut a 700mm wide doorway where the orange box is. https://ibb.co/j4YPwMn It's in between the gas pipe and electric cable. I will ask the DNO to move the electric board 90mm left to butt up against the consumer unit. That will give 120mm of space between the cut and the cable. On...

Suspended Timber Floor in Garage Conversion

Ignore that last post about joist hangars I've gone to screwfix and looked at the standard jiffy hangars 10 for 10quid with standard legs. The min joist they accommodate is 120mm which should work for me. I will fold the leg over the top of the joist and cut off the excess. Also the metal is...

Suspended Timber Floor in Garage Conversion

I am looking at joist hangers and a bit confused. My timber is 45 x 125mm. Ledger boards are timber so I am fixing timber to timber. I want my joists to be the same level as the ledger board. So am I right in thinking I cannot use the hangars that bend over the top of the joist because that...

Suspended Timber Floor in Garage Conversion

Genius, thanks for the advice I will go for one ledger board per wall then use 3m lengths which will allow the correct joist for the 245 span plus noggins at 50cm spacing. I am not worried about damp. But to be safe I might fix some DPC to the back of the boards. Doing dwarf walls is a bit much...

Suspended Timber Floor in Garage Conversion

both my local timber yards only sell in max 4.8m garage floor has a 23cm drop. I spoke to building control who suggest a suspended timber floor. They said floating floor over 150mm of insulation might be spongy.

Suspended Timber Floor in Garage Conversion

Just thought of another question. How far apart should the bolts in the ledger board be? Also when drilling multiple bolts into the wall they will be surely uneven by at least a few mill. How do people make these ledger boards perfectly level?

Suspended Timber Floor in Garage Conversion

Please help. Never done a timber floor so all help appreciated. The garage is 254cm wide. I will use 45x125mm c24 timber in 2.4m lengths. I will mount ledger boards to the two longest opposing walls. If I mount just one ledger board to both walls I will have a span of 245cm. A 245cm gap will...

How to Cut Small Access Door in 300mm Cavity Wall

Then I used an angle grinder to flatten the sides and bottom of the outer skin in preparation for the frame. 100mm x 20mm treated timber. Then I built the door from shiplap treated cladding 20mm thick. Some small bits left to do like need a hasp, silicone or mortar the gap between the frame...

How to Cut Small Access Door in 300mm Cavity Wall

Here's a photo of the space under the house. It's 2.5 meters wide. This is actually only half of the space. I need to cut a hole in the left wall which will allow access to the other half of the space. It tapers upwards as it goes deeper in.
