Because when the cold feed is blocked the system is short of water and the first thing to suffer is the coil on the cylinder hence no hot water.

I generally find that the plastic pipe out of the trap has been cut with an hack saw and the rough cut has not been trimmed smooth, ideal for catching hair.

Is your boiler the Ecomax or the Ecotec pro 28 combination boiler

It is probably the warm start for domestic hot water. To turn if off you need to turn the hot water control on the boiler to the off position then back to your setting. To turn it back on the control full on then back to your setting. Turn it off and see if that helps. :wink:
