Yes, if I ever do this again, I wil do that. As @JohnD said, it also allows you to remove shelves as required. I could add more wall battens to make adjustable shelves. Doing these simpler jobs yourself opens your eyes to a world of things you can do.

Really appreciate your response and am tryi g the bigger drill hole with same screws, but may go and buy shorter screws if it is still too hard. If I do get new screws, would posi-screws be better and by thinner would you use a 3.0 or 2.0?

What seems to happen is:
I press the unlock button and it goes from flashing EA to -- to a temperature.
It then goes (for example) 29, 30, 31 then 30 29
The red flame light comes on for a few seconds and it climbs again 29 30 31 32
then falls again a couple of degrees and the red...
After a few attempts, it finally got up to temperature and stayed on. But last night, it stopped again.
Flashing EA and lock light flashing.
When I restart it starts to climb in temperature to low 20s and then cuts out, but doesn't go through display alternating between -II- and the boiler...
Boiler was working great.
I thought I would be clever and bled two radiators. That went well, but I didn't repressurise the boiler.
So when I tried to bleed a third radiator, no air or water came out of it and I didn't put the cap back on properly.
