Was serviced last Sat by Tame BG engineer although he was not sure what it was??????????????? Glad I ain't got a contract with them! He said Gas Valve, pressure switch or PCB Bulk Surgery that looks like Its only 3 years old He did a pressure test and emission test that came up OK

We had a similar noise that was heard all over the place. When I investigated further it was my wife puffing and banging on start up! I also noticed all her sisters made a similar whining noise as well. No offence to anyone this was just my problem at home here, but hope this helps.
