Harsh! Maybe didn't word it properly, but what I meant was the pump and fan both appear to be fine (assuming if it were the fan making the noise it would be heard from outside at the flue and also when coming in at the start) it was more a comparison to try to describe the noise......

Always a bit of a vague one to pinpoint via the web but worth a try with the experience on here. Boiler has just started making a noise when switching on, appears to happen with both DHW and CH operation. On first switching on, pump starts to run, then fan, then igniter and the boiler fires up...

Just a quick update, have changed the plate heat exchanger and all is well, so many thanks to all that took the time to help. Although i have only operated the hot water for about 5 mins, during that time no heat has fed through to the central heating circuit so maybe i have got away with the...

Glad you do though! Im a HGV mechanic and always try to advise customers on things they can try and do to cure a fault before bringing it in. Brings a lot of satisfaction knowing youve helped......

Absolutely perfect, can see how and why that would happen now. Was kind of on the right line, had just skipped the reason that any leakage would occur in the diverter valve! Will descale plate and see what happens from there. Many thanks. Will advise findings in the week.

not knowing how much you know about engines, but are you just looking at the viscous coupling doing its thing? It should spin relatively freely with a small amount of resistance. If you went out to it first thing/ when cold you would feel a greater amount of resistance for the first dozen or so...

Far be it for me to argue here, and thanks for quick reply, by why would heated water be sent along heating flow line when its not on? My thinking was that the (over) heated water thats been incorrectly distributed down the heating flow and unable to be dispersed as the pump has not been...

Hoping this can be a simple yes answer!! I have a problem with the hot water supply from the potterton 24 (not the HE model) Heating works perfectly, no problems there but when hot water side is operated a number of things occur 1. No hot water! 2. boiler operates briefly 3. gurggling...

really must stop thinking too much! It states that it works at 60-80 degrees for 4 hours or so. with the exchanger remover, how would you go about doing this?? :? As its a combi i cant do it in sit can i ???

:shock: does the flushing route work with any success then? Im a mechanic by trade and very rarely does flushing a vehicles cooling system actually make any difference, thats why i was going to replace rather than repair! If it does often work i shall give that a go first. :P Best...
