    Stone or concrete patio slabs

Just wondering which to go for. Looking around (online) and per square meter the cheaper natural stone slabs seem about the same cost as the cheaper concrete type slabs, unless I've worked the costs out wrong. The one think that concerns me about natural stone is breakages and running short...

    Forgot expansion joint

I'll have a dig down the side of the crack to establish the type of crack. The ground is made up from spoil I believe and has a lot of clay in it so pretty sure it'll be a settlement crack.

    Forgot expansion joint

Thanks for the answer woody. I figured I had (when I started when I started the wall) decided I didn't need any here. Needed to ask though as can finally get back to finishing the wall and I noticed a small crack in the mortar about a meter out from the corner which I put down to settlement...

    Forgot expansion joint

Hi, I started a garden wall a couple years ago and not sure if I should have put in an expansion joint. The wall is 4 inch blocks on the flat, I left it just below ground level and put expansion joints every 6 meters. However at the corner I didn't place an expansion gap so effectively there is...

    Recommended fixing for kids swing

Thanks foxhole, I looked at decking type screws and bolts but they all seemed to small (in diameter). I ended up using coach 8mm X 70mm bolts. Would have preferred something with a better coating but these should be fine. Thanks again.

    Help find replacement door mechanism

Thanks for the replies. I don't hold much hope but it's always good to ask. I'm just going to order a new lock mechanism the and size and disconnect the top and bottom hook locks as this will be the cheapest way to secure the door Thanks again.

    Help find replacement door mechanism

Please could anyone help me find a replacement lock. The door uses a Winkhaus mechanism like the one pictured. I've found similar ones online but no matches and the ones I've seen are very expensive. The problem is this doorway is eventually getting blocked up so I don't want to spend a...

    Fair enough. Thanks both.

    Retaining wall drain holes.

No not when it's just one but when it's all his mates too, plus dirt and other rubbish out seems to be blocking the holes. Just figured larger holes would be easier to keep clear out rather harder to get blocked. Cheers.

    Retaining wall drain holes.

I put in a small raised flower bed and used 22mm waste pipe for weep holes. Seemed fine for the size of the wall but now realise my mistake. Snails are the perfect size to block up these holes, they seem to climb in and die and then the rest of the garden snails act like lemmings and do the...

Old felt DCP above window question

Most likely but it's one of those peace of mind things. I wouldn't bet on the old tray, bricked up a side window a few years back and the felt tray had rotten and had rips and holes all over.

Old felt DCP above window question

Thanks woody, As I'm replacing the window I'll put some extra DPC under the old as it looks like it is breaking down, just to be safe. So then once the new windows in just fully seal it and the felt will direct any water to the front leaf and find it's own way out then. Cheers.

Old felt DCP above window question

I was just measuring a window for placing the order and I noticed that the cavity has a bitumen felt drip tray as many old houses do. It is clearing falling apart and needs something better in its placed. It looks as though a large gap has been left above the window and the felt comes under...

Replace existing concrete cills with upvc

Don't be daft, The photo is just to give clarity to the type of cill. That one in the photo is on the ground floor and is fine it's the 1st floor ones that are knackered and possibly could be a risk to people below. Cheers.
