Are you sure it's the cable that's gone...there are a myriad of problems that can happen to cooker hoods..the most common that I see are motor/capacitor problems and PCB and switches. Anyway here is a link for 28 pages of spares for your hood...hope this helps...

When the fan works or doesn't work is pure coincidence. Fan should come on immediately you turn dial to fan assisted setting. If you switch to grille setting then the fan will not come on. Clearly the fan is the next thing to be replaced on your maintenance agenda.

Doesn't sound like an electrician to me wiring it into a lighting circuit . Did he give you an Electrical Installation Certificate? Work in a bathroom is subject to Part P of the building regs and this should be tested and certified. If not you have recourse to Trading Standards or whatever...

Get a sparky in to do an Electrical Installation Condition Report. A full test of the wiring and a good visual inspection would highlight any deficiencies. Will cost you in all probability 100-150 but if he's thorough money well spent.
