For the home central heating system, I am looking to replace the very basic room thermostat with one that has more advanced features:-
- Programmable, ideally have settings for each day of the week.
- Bluetooth capability so can be controlled from Android smart phone.
- Boost feature...
As the cylinder is not leaking now, it's highly probable that the plumber "fabricated" a leak to "generate" some extra work/income - and they are know for doing this sort of thing. And then did the job properly the 2nd time round. Epitomizes the trust worthiness of many trades and not just...
The clues in the caveat "as much as possible"
OP says "The gaskets/seals on both penetrations were off-centre"
that should of started the alarm bells ringing!
But I accept that the OP would probably have wanted that cylinder fitted anyway.

Could it be the plumber just made a mistake in fitting it, and hence the leak. Just a thought.
And then blame the cylinder for being faulty. Surely, a good plumber would of checked the seals/gaskets BEFORE fitting the parts.
But hey-ho that's the way it goes. I don't think they like it if you...

I believe the reason why they offer free boilers to those that qualify is because the old ones are inefficient. They don't just get a free boiler if they already have an efficient boiler.
