Current regs on kitchen extractor fan

Hi Everyone, When I moved into my current house in 2017 I removed the extractor fan in the kitchen along with the elevated wall cupboards. I don’t need a fan as I don’t fry or boil anything on the stove, in fact I cook as little as possible. A friend recently told me that I am required...

    Wire for earthing backbox

Thank you for your reply. I agree but the metal box which came out had nowhere for the wire yet the new plastic box does.

    Wire for earthing backbox

That is what I thought however the backbox does have a place to put the earth wire… whereas the metal box didn’t

    Wire for earthing backbox

I have replied albeit in the wrong place. No extra wiring, just shortened. No pulling up as did not want to stress the wires so cut away wall instead.

    Wire for earthing backbox

I had thought that plastic boxes did not need earthing however they provide a point for you to do so and I was okay with that.

    Wire for earthing backbox

They could have done this job too but it would appear I live in an area where small electrical jobs are not wanted. Only one person came back with an actual quote and it was for hundreds of pounds for a cooker plate and socket.

    Wire for earthing backbox

I am not an electrician so I have shortened the wiring only. I did not pull on the wiring as I felt that might strain it in some manner. I cut out the wall upwards all the way to the new position instead. The one job I have that does need extra wiring will be done by an electrician.

    Wire for earthing backbox

My new double socket switch plate also by Schneider…. Please note I am simply replacing an existing plastic plate which is now higher on the wall as the original Socket was at ground level… not much use in a kitchen.

    Wire for earthing backbox

Hi, I have taken out an old metal back box and replaced with a white plastic surface back box by Schneider electric. I have also purchased a new double switch plate and it clearly shows where to screw-in my live and neutral wiring. The two earthing wires each have their own interface and the...

How should I protect the wiring

Just to explain. I do not like cooker hoods. So the hood and the fused plate are out the of the wall and I just have a small piece of cable still connected to my double socket. The double socket is not a modern type so after viewing the contents I decided it would be better not to touch it...

How should I protect the wiring

I am currently removing kitchen cabinets, flooring, tiles etcetera and revealing the electric arrangement as I go. I now realise that I will need an electrician just to 'tidy' it up as the arrangement behind the cabinets was far below par with wires not actually in the walls. I have today...
