Replacing ceiling light - old cabling is confusing!

Thanks AndyPRK So just for my understanding, the white cable leading into the ceiling has been connected incorrectly into a junction box - I guess somewhere under the floorboards? The electrician reports states: "At all of the switches and sockets there is either no earth sleeving or the...

Replacing ceiling light - old cabling is confusing!

Hi I am attempting to replace an old ceiling light and replace it with a new pendant. The house was built in 1971 and still has the same electrics from when it was first built. I started removing the old light and found out the 3 cables (brown, blue and green/yellow) from the light were...

Which Central Heating System Should I Choose?

Thanks DP and Whitespirit66 We are favouring the unvented system primarily because the plumber who suggested it has worked for us before. Otherwise, we are a little at the mercy of plumbers thoughts, so I appreciate your guys advice. Whitespirit66 - obviously it will be cheaper to...

Which Central Heating System Should I Choose?

Hi I'm after some advice on which CH system to go for. I currently have a conventional system with a 2006 Glow worm boiler in the cellar, hot water cyclinder in the kitchen and cold water tank in loft, running 7 radiators. The pipework is micro-bore and the radiators date back to the...

RCD socket tripped and now broken?

Tried your suggestion. No luck I'm afraid. The button does appear to be depressing without difficulty. There is a slight buzzing noise either coming from the socket or the fused socket for the boiler located next to it. I think I need to call an electrician tomorrow.

RCD socket tripped and now broken?

Thanks for the replies Londonboy - this socket is the only socket I have with an RCD. For some reason when a new fuse box was installed it did not have a RCD buiilt in. Riveralt - I must confess I do always have freezer on all the time and tunble dryer on about 1 hour per day. Radio...

RCD socket tripped and now broken?

I have a RCD double socket in my garage which no longer appears to be working. The TEST button cannot be depressed, but when I hold the ON button the power is working, but as soon as I release my finger the button pops back and power cuts off. I believe the rcd is wired directly back to the...
