Driveway Floodlight Replacement - Standalone PIR and Additional Downlights

Thanks for your suggestions Eric. I've considered smart bulbs/plugs/sockets as I've got a comprehensive smart system and routines through alexa inside the house. For the driveway though, I wanted to keep it as simple as motion detected = lights on for 1 minute or so. I don't plan on having them...

Driveway Floodlight Replacement - Standalone PIR and Additional Downlights

Good Afternoon All, My existing PIR floodlight has failed and I am looking to replace it with some additional upgrades The PIR on the floodlight didn't do a great job at picking up motion and I could often walk right up to it before it would detect movement. It wouldn't detect when I drove my...

Nest Thermostat Gen 3 - Dual Zone Install

Just posting back to report that I followed your advice and successfully installed both thermostats working perfectly! So big thanks for your help mate. The hardest part was accessing the wiring centre which I assume has been incorrectly placed directly behind the zone valves. Squeezing the...

Nest Thermostat Gen 3 - Dual Zone Install

I was planning to redirect the brown and grey wires from the old stats directly into T1 and T2, leaving the blacks unused. Is that incorrect?

Nest Thermostat Gen 3 - Dual Zone Install

Thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed response Stem. I’m just looking to clarify, Are you saying that rather than adding two new lengths of cable from the blue and grey connections from the zone valves to the Heatlink L & N, I should take the grey and brown from the TPOne...

Nest Thermostat Gen 3 - Dual Zone Install

    Wiring a PIR floodlight

Thanks Terry - really appreciate the help. currently, no, the sockets are only used for a lawnmower. Would there be any difference going from the existing FCU into another FCU rather than the socket? Reason being it’s much closer to the security light and would save me buying more cable.

    Wiring a PIR floodlight

Yeah just one double socket. The OCP is a 16a MCB at the consumer unit cable from house to FCU I believe is 2.5mm T&E (apologies garage is not connected to go check) cable from FCU to double socket is 2.5mm T&E. They also used 2.5mm T&E from FCU to light.

    Wiring a PIR floodlight

Hi Terry, thanks for your reply. Yes the garage is RCD protected at the consumer unit in the house. The existing light is fed and switched on/off by the switched FCU with a 3amp fuse. The socket is fed from the supply side of the FCU and not fused. I can’t go from the load side of the FCU as...

    Wiring a PIR floodlight

Hi all, I’m looking for some advice regarding the best way to wire a 54W PIR floodlight to my garage. I have used the floodlights pre installed 1m of cable to enter the garage and added 1.0mm T&E cable via a choc bloc inside an in-line connector box. The garage is powered from a radial coming...
