Repairs to old extension triggers building inspection?

I mean the entire roof structure from the ceiling out, it is currently a flat (i.e. low pitch), felt roof (but some quotes have suggested composite tiles rather than felt/EPDM). One of the causes for the replacement suggestion is that it is not clear how the upper wall plate is secured to the...

Repairs to old extension triggers building inspection?

Not everyone who's looked at it has been sure but it says in the link below it would be required. https://www.planningportal.co.uk/info/200130/common_projects/47/roof/3

Repairs to old extension triggers building inspection?

Would like to get some advice on an issue I'm having. We have a house that has what would be an illegal extension. It is a single skin wall with no external quality door between the rest of the house. Because this has been existing for over 10 years before we bought the property we were told it...

    Concrete bed for sleepers?

https://www.pavingexpert.com/featur08 reckons you should have a concrete bed. Might not be 100% necessary but is probably best practice.

    Floor crumbling at edges

More pictures from a different corner. One shows a chunk of floor removed and a bit zoomed in, you can see the concrete below is intact. The other shows the piece replaced and zoomed out - you can see a double socket for scale. There doesn't seem to be an issue with damp at the moment...but my...

    Floor crumbling at edges

Thanks for the response. I'll try to get a better picture later. To clarify, it is the black stuff that has the crack - not the concrete. I believe it could well be bitumen. It is very difficult to photograph but it appears to have a faint impression of squares in it so it would appear it was...

    Floor crumbling at edges

I'm looking at replacing some carpet with some laminate flooring. I've pulled up the carpet/underlay and found that the surface underneath is crumbling in some corners. I'm not sure what this stuff is, it's black and kind of rubbery feeling. I've attached a picture (the cracking is hard to see...

    Internal crack around window

Yeah, heard lots of bad things about Finlock gutters and it's on the list of things to sort. Apparently they can also act as a thermal bridge. As you say, I need to look under the plaster to figure out more. Will update when I can get around to it.

    Internal crack around window

Thanks for the suggestions. I've attached a photo of the outside render. The window in question is on the right. I hopefully will get around to looking under the plaster, however not for a few months. This is in the 'spare' room which we're using as the main bedroom while we do up the other...

    Internal crack around window

As far as I can tell there is no plasterboard - the plaster was applied directly onto the blocks. The 150 mm is how deep the ruler goes into the crack, from the surface of the plater, but it is only 150 mm long so I can't tell if there is more space (I guess there is as the only thing that...

    Internal crack around window

Thanks for the comments vinn. Some more details. The board is there to cover an air brick - I guess they didn't like the draft. Cavity wall insulation has been fitted, don't know how they did it so could have been injected. It was in 2009. I've got a ruler and poked in the crack. It slides...

    Internal crack around window

I've had a search and think I've found the following information. I'd appreciate any comments on this plan. This looks like it's a reoccuring problem as it looks like someone has already had a go a repairing it and it's back. According to this thread...

    Internal crack around window

Thanks for the swift response. That doesn't sound too serious. Can I just replaster the wall or will the plasterboard need to be replaced?

    Internal crack around window

I live in a 1950's three bed semi ex-council house. There is some cracking around the window on the first floor. It seems reasonably big to my inexperienced eye. I've attached some pictures below; the window is just out of shot to the left. There are no signs of cracking on the outside but it is...
