Jammed 5 lever ASSA Mortice Lock

By the way, I have backplates on my handles so unless I can get a key cover that can be retrofitted then I'm looking at replacing with one with a backplate that does have.

Jammed 5 lever ASSA Mortice Lock

Yes. Of course they are symmetrical for a reason. Didn't consider that although I did think that a locksmith would need to know from what side. I could have two keys made, one for inside and one for outside then I could have it asymetrical. I nearly bought one of those keysafes around Xmas...

Jammed 5 lever ASSA Mortice Lock

I might buy a spare just in case it happens again anytime soon then it doesn't matter what time of day it jams. I'm pretty confident it is not overtly worn out but I do think the bolt hitting the keep and me having to put weight against the door to lock it is probably somehow accelerating wear...

Jammed 5 lever ASSA Mortice Lock

Hi JohnD Thanks for promptly reaching out. I stripped it and cleaned it with IPA so it was squeaky clean. I happened to have some graphite powder and the locks in my car were spinning a few months ago so I stripped and repaired those. They were fun to do... I do indeed have an open keyhole...

Jammed 5 lever ASSA Mortice Lock

Good news! Lubricating it seemed to ease it and sort it. So all I really need to know now is what is the best lubricant for a mortice deadlock? Normal grease or graphite powder? Existing internals have evidence of grease. Presumably lube every interface bar where you would get it on your key?

Jammed 5 lever ASSA Mortice Lock

What a day! Just been out for a walk and the front door locked OK (albeit I have to really tug on the door handle as the damned thing expands as the weather warms up). Came back and couldn't get in the house. Ended up kicking the back door in because I couldn't be bothered to wait for a mate...

Boiler Service - What fun! 7 hours and limited response from Intergas

Digression is my middle name so don’t worry about that. Despite the current situation, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the IG Rapid 32. My plumber mate when he installed it had nothing good to say about it at that time. But I know he’s ‘dyed in the wool’. Dare I say he’s not the brightest...

Boiler Service - What fun! 7 hours and limited response from Intergas

I was unaware of this Rheem takeover thing but then again I'm not in the industry. Good to know things like this though. Bids for companies are usually because they want to expand their portfolio and move into a certain sector of the market. IG must be very busy. I assume that their...

Boiler Service - What fun! 7 hours and limited response from Intergas

Thanks for the input ianmcd. It's appreciated. This is from the Manus instructions:- Note Intergas cannot be held responsible for atmospheric conditions when siting flue terminals CAUTION Once the flue has been installed and the appliance commissioned, installer should observe the plume...

Boiler Service - What fun! 7 hours and limited response from Intergas

Spoke with IG today and a few things have come out of this. The manual I have is naturally the one that came with the boiler but I've downloaded the latest from the website. I have not checked to see if there is any difference but everything I garble on about in the post always relates to the...

Boiler Service - What fun! 7 hours and limited response from Intergas

Thanks for the advice. I'll be giving my old buddy (who only does IG) a call to see if he can service it and failing that Intergas. I imagine if he only does IG then he will have the service items on hand that might be needed to correct it assuming it is something minor like a gas ring?

Boiler Service - What fun! 7 hours and limited response from Intergas

Yep. I am concerned even more now. Thanks for sharing that. I guess if he's never opened an Intergas up before he's not going to be fully conversant with it. I don't know how plumbers go on with all the different boilers. I suppose they just specialise in one or two brands? I have got a...

Boiler Service - What fun! 7 hours and limited response from Intergas

He'd never installed an Intergas before 2 years ago and hasn't since I believe and last year the readings passed so he's never had to adjust an Intergas. It concerned me too but he's Gas Safe Registered as I always check anyone that works on my house and re-check them before they do a service...

Boiler Service - What fun! 7 hours and limited response from Intergas

He used the H setting as stated by the manual. After posting last night, I read the manual virtually cover to cover and noticed that. Test h is for central heating and Test H is for direct hot water so I wonder if this was the issue. So when you ask was he definitely testing it correctly, I...
