    Usually just the basic one, lightweight with a u shape on the bottom.

    So your syphon/flush valve is likely passing from somewhere.

    I put this loo paper at the back of the bowl & it went damp. The loo had not been used.

    Just call a plumber and say you want a stopcock replaced with a lever valve - better in the long run.

    Looks like the stopcock to me. It's probably bounded and may be able to be worked loose.
